However, the most recent one has been the construction of a third passenger terminal making it have a different look. The new terminal is the biggest and most modern of the three terminals that the airport have. Ghana’s new Kotoka International Airport has the capacity to handle 1,250 passengers per an hour, which adds up to some five million passengers a year. It is equipped with six boarding bridges, a large commercial and retail area, three business lounges and purpose built transit facilities. Contractors The new terminal 3 project is a design and build concept undertaken by Turkish Construction Company named Mapa Construction MNG Holding. Government The immediate past President John Dramani Mahama cut the sod to signal the commencement of work, accompanied by his Turkish counterpart, President Precep Tayyip Erdogan. It is now due to be commission by the incumbent President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo Addo. Funding The African Development Bank (AfDB) approved a $120m loan with a tenure of up to 15 years for the project in September 2015 making the construction of the terminal 3 successful. It is also the first private sector investment made by the bank in Ghana’s transport sector.
