The Volta Lake is the largest man-made lake in Ghana and the largest in the world in terms of surface area. It is completely within the country and stretches from Akosombo in the south to Yapei in the northern part of the country.
The Volta Lake covers 3.6% of Ghana’s land space and covers four regions: The Eastern, Volta, Brong Ahafo and Northern Regions. It covers a land area of 8,502 sq. km and has a length of over 400 km.

The Akosombo dam which is suited along the Volta Lake supplies electricity to the nation and other neighboring countries like Togo, Ivory Coast and Burkina Faso. The White Volta and Black Volta flows into the Volta Lake, whiles the Volta River flows out of the Volta Lake.
