1. The Kwame Nkrumah Mausoleum
Touring Ghana for a week? The first stop suggestion is the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park. It is the final resting place for Ghana’s first President Dr. Kwame Nkrumah and his wife, Fathia Nkrumah. It is located in Accra, about five minutes’ drive from the Black Star Square. The Park was designed by Don Arthur. It is designed in the form of a sword turned upside down. It symbolizes peace in the Akan culture.
2. James Town
James town is mainly a fishing community inhabited by the Ga’s and if you touring Ghana for one Week, it is definitely one of the places you have to be. Why? It is one of the oldest districts in the country and the buildings in the town date back to colonial times.

3. The Kakum National Park
It was established in 1931 as a reserve. What makes the park famous is its canopy walk. It was one of three in Africa until recently. (Ghana has two others; UG botanical gardens and Bunso). The canopy walk is 350 meters long and is connected by seven trees which passes through the forest.
The park is also home to several animals and plants species. The river, Kakum originates from the park. That’s how the Park got its name. The Park is located in Abrafo, 33km north of Cape Coast. If you plan on touring Ghana for a Week, the Kakum National Park is a place you must visit.
4. The Elmina Castle
Another must go site if you are touring Ghana for one week is the Elmina Castle. The castle was built by the Portuguese in 1482. It is located in Elmina and was the first trading post built on the Gulf of Guinea, making it the oldest in the south of the Sahara. The castle was used in the Trans-Atlantic slave trade. It is a historical site and listed by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site.
5. Nzulezu Water Village
The Village, Nzulelzu is located about 90km west of Takoradi, the Western Regional Capital. The village is built over The Lake Tanda. The name “Nzulezu” means water surface in Nzema. It is one of few settlements on silts and platforms left in the world. The village can be reached by a canoe and access to the village is allowed only once in a week for tourist purposes.
