A Tour through the Canopy Walkway of Kakum National Park

Enjoy and Share! !

Kakum National Park is an exciting place. It is a national forest reserve, covering a land area of 375 square kilometres.  There is a special Canopy Walkway, a connected-wooden bridge, about 30 meters away from the ground and 350 meters long. Touring through the Canopy Walkway, you will be able to see the treetops, the animals and the entire forest reserve.

The Canopy Walkway is the most notable part of the Kakum National Park. Kakum National Park is among the only three forest reserves with a walkway. It is very exciting, frightening and thrilling to take a walk through the Canopy Walkway.

The park was established in 1931 as a result of the initiative of the local people. However, it is now preserved through the Ghana Museums and Monuments Board. In 2020, the park was nominated as part of the List of the World Heritage Site.

It is protected rain forest with wild animals such as Diana Monkey, as primates, forest elephants, and bongo elements.  It serves as a home for several bird, parrot and hornbill species. There is a total of about 266 bird species at the place. When you visit the park, you get to see the world animals and have a feel of nature.

Every year, the Kakum National Park attracts hundreds and thousands of visitors. Many people who visit the Cape Coast also visit the area. This is because the park is located in the Central Region of Ghana. It is about three hours’ drive from Accra. The tour through the Kakum Forest and the Canopy Walkway is amazing, breathtaking and unforgettable tour experience.

You can’t afford to this when you are at Cape Coast. At the park, there is a small restaurant where you can buy local Ghanaian food and other dishes to eat. Before leaving for home, you might want to take a little walk through the Kakum Park.
