2. Osu Castle
Do you want to learn about slavery, colonial rule, colonial governance and the early independent administration of Ghana? Then, Osu Castle is the best tour destination to look out for. Osu Castle was the center for slavery and British administration and later became the seat of Governance before finally moving to the Flagstaff House. It’s located at Osu in Accra, near the Asomdwe Park.
3. W.E.B. Dubious Memorial Center of Pan African Culture
One of the things celebrated by Ghana and the entire African continent is Pan Africanism. But how wonderful to note that the man who is currently acclaimed as the father of modern Africanism breathed his last in Ghana, William Edward Bernhardt (W.E.B) Dubious! His museum, library, artifacts and ancient records are kept at the W.E.D. Dubious Memorial Center of Pan African Culture.
4. James Fort
One of the oldest forts in Ghana is the James Fort. James Fort has remained resilient since it was built in 1672 in the pre-colonial era of Ghana. It was one of the Forts used in the era of Gold Coast for trading activities and later a slave trade yard! There’s a lot to learn here. It’s located at No.7 Barnes Rd, south of the Cleveland Rd in Jamestown, Accra.
5. National Museum of Ghana
You want to explore the beauty of African and Ghanaian culture? The Ghana National Museum is one of the oldest and well cherished museums in West Africa. In there are artifacts, ceremonial cloths, senfu, mats and others which showcases the rich cultural, traditional and ancestral heritage of Ghana and Africa. It’s located at No. 2 Barnes Road, Accra Central.
5. Arts Centre
The Arts Center has always been a core value of the African culture. In view of that the Arts Center in Accra houses and serves as a collection of various kinds of fabrics, drums, wood carvings, tariffs, stalls, raffia, paintings and many more. The Arts Center is located between the Barnes Rd and the 28th February Rd, east of the Kwame Nkrumah Memorial Park.
6. Jamestown Lighthouse
Jamestown Lighthouse is one of the oldest civilizations of the Gold Coast era. The Jamestown Lighthouse was the light used in the colonial era by the foreign traders in Ghana built in Jamestown. It is 34 meters tall above sea level and has 16 nautical miles. It is located in Jamestown between the James Fort and the James Fishing Habour.
