The place is found between two villages Boabeng and Fiema, hence it was named, The Boabery-Fieme Monkey Sanctuary.  The Sanctuary The Boabery-Fieme Monkey Sanctuary covers about 35 hectares of land and is found between the two villages, Boabery and Fieme, which are a mile apart from each other. There is also a grave site in the Boabery-Fieme Monkey Sanctuary. When monkeys in the Boabery-Fieme Sanctuary die, funeral rites are held for them just like it is done for humans! Dead monkeys are buried in a grave, inside the forest. The Boabery-Fieme Monkey Sanctuary is also a home to wide range of trees, butterflies and birds as well. The Monkeys The monkeys in the Boabery-Fieme Sanctuary are considered sacred by the folks. It is said that for this reason the two communities, in 1975 came together and agreed to pass a law prohibiting people from hunting and harming the monkeys. The sanctuary is home to two main species of monkeys. The Geoffrey’s Pied Columbus which numbers about 200 and the Campbell’s Mona Monkey, about 500 of them. They can be seen as one walks through the forest. Other species of monkeys like the Patas, Spot Nosed and Diana Monkeys have also been sighted in the forest but not in great number. The sanctuary is said to be the only place in Africa where this species of monkey: The Geoffrey’s Pied Columbus and the Campbell’s Mona in great numbers. The monkeys also reside with the locals in the village. They can be seen in the homes of the locals jumping from one house to another. The hotel sector in Ghana has remained resilient despite recent global economic challenges. Following the collapse in the oil price and that of other commodities, the government has taken steps to diversify the economy, including promoting the hospitality and tourism sector. These are some of the highlights from PwC’s 7th edition of the ‘Hotels Outlook: 2017-2021’ report. Ghana’s hospitality industry grew 1.2% from 2015 to 2016. The World Travel & Tourism Council (WTTC) expects Ghana’s tourism industry to expand by 5.6% in 2016 and maintain an annual growth rate of 5.1% per annum from 2017 through to 2027. A number of internationally-branded hotels are based in Accra. As at May 2017, there were 2, 723 hotels and lodges in Ghana. This is expected to increase the number of business travellers to the country as the government embarks on a number of initiatives to stimulate economic growth. The government is also making improvements in transport infrastructure, with the construction of a third terminal at Accra’s Kotoka International Airport and allocation of funds for the repair of roads to popular tourist destinations. The hotel industry is expected to grow 1.1% in 2017, 2.1% in 2018 and 2.3% in 2019. “Having regard to the investment by foreign investors in the industry through the establishment of high-rated hotels, and an increasing number of tourists and business travellers, it is expected that there will be continuous growth in the industry,” Calicchio said.
